Bishop's Pool, Kibblesworth
A relatively recent flash pool, Bishop's Pool as it is now known has been very producutive since about 2009. Though it usually dries up in summer, and easily freezes in winter, the spring and autumn can be very good. Recent species occuring here include regular wintering Green Sandpiper and passage Pintail as well as an Osprey flying over in Spring 2010. Park on Moorhill Lane, just east of Kibblesworth village at HollyDene and cross the road to the junction with lane back to Greenford Lane. View the pond by looking down into the field by Kibblesworth East Farm. A telescope is usually required for viewing the waders but the resident wintering Teal can usually be seen together with the small Grey Lag flock in the adjacent fields. Both Grey and Red-legged Partridge are regular around here and Tree Sparrow is virtually guaranteed in the hedge and trees where you are standing.
