Small Tortoiseshell - Noted at at Shibdon, Blaydon, Derwent Country Park and Barmoor between 2nd-4th and one at Shibdon Pond on 8th.
Peacock - Noted at at Shibdon on 2nd Shibdon, Blaydon, Lamelsy, Burdon Moor and Ryton between 2nd-4th but no more due to the cold weather until the 21st when 1 was at Shibdon and 2 there on 24th and singles at Wardley Country Park and Westfield Pasture on 29th..

Comma- Noted at at Shibdon on 2nd and 2 at Derwent Walk Country Park on 3rd but no more due to the cold weather until the 21st when 1 was at Shibdon. Aniother was at Westfield Pasture on 29th..
Green-veined White - First of the year was one at Shibdon Pond on 27th, another noted at Westfield Pasture on 29th..
Small White - 1 nectaring on narcissi at Cowen Road, Blaydon on 16th was the first of the year. Still present the following day, on the 18th it fell to the ground, desperate for some warming sunshine. Another (or the same) at the same site on 28th

Two-spotted Ladybird (Adalia bipunctata) - A probable at Blaydon on 3th.
Seven-spotted Ladybird (Coccinella septempunctata) - 2 at Shibdon on 24th

Small Tortoiseshell - One at Clara Vale out in the sunshine on 12th was the first of the year, followed by 4 at Westfield Pasture and 1 at Shibdon on 31st.
Peacock - 9 at Westfield Pasture and 4 at Dunston on 31st were the first of the year.
Red Admiral - 4 at Shibdon 31st were the first of the year
Comma- 9 at Westfield Pasture and 4 at Dunston on 31st were the first of the year.
Orange-tip- 1 at Dunston on 31st was the first of the year and perhaps the earliest ever for Gateshead

 

Garden Ant (Lasius niger) - First of the year were noted in a garden in Rowlands Gill on 13th
Honey Bee (Apis mellifera) - First of the year were noted in a garden in Rowlands Gill on 13th
Buff Tailed Bumblebee (Bombus terrestris) - One noted at Shibdon 17th was the first of the year, several others noted subsequently

Not the Sheep !

Note all the white on the grass. This is not frost but a mass of spider's webs showing up very well due to the overnight damp followed by the spring-like morning sunshine at Clara Vale.
