Common Blue - The first was one at Kibblesworth on 22nd followed by 2 at Lamesley Water Meadows on 25th. Subsequently noted at Shibdon, Birtley railway sidings, Kibblesworth brickworks pools and Stargate
Small Copper - One at Shibdon on 17th and 1 at Kibblesworth on 25th - 26th and Stargate on 25th - 26th

Chimney Sweeper - Several at Eelshaugh in the Derwent Walk CP on 23rd were the first.
Panemeria tenebrata (Small Yellow Underwing) - Noted at Stargate on 25th and Barlow Burn on 29th - perhaps the first Gateshead records.
Currant Clearwing - 1 attracted to a pheromone lure at Clara Vale on 29th was the first for Gateshead

Four-spotted Chaser - First noted at Kibblesworth brickworks pools on 23rd and several there also on 24th & 25th. 6 were seen emerging, all 6 to 20 foot away from water one emerged on dry ground and its wings dried to quickly so it won't survive. 20+ were here on 30th.

Banded Demoiselle- 1 at Eelshaugh in the Derwent Walk CP on 23rd was the first followed by 3 (mmf) nearby at Damhead on 29th.
Blue-tailed Damselfly - 2-3 at Kibblesworth brickworks pools on 11th. One was at Shibdon on 12th - 17th and many including several var. rufescens were at Clara Vale LNR on 13th. More at Kibblesworth brickworks pools on 24th

Common Carder Bee (Bombus pascuorum) - Good numbers all along the Bowes valley trail on 10th and noted at Shibdon, Blaydon and Birtley during the month.

Orange-Tip - The first was 20+ at Shibdon on 11th, with others seen next day there and at Greenford Lane, Lamesley. regular from the 17th at Shibdon and Lamesley and Stargate and other sites from 20th including 8+ at Kibblesworth on 26th.
Green-veined White - The first of the year was one at the Bishop's Pool, Kibblesworth on 1st. Another at Stargate on 10th and regular from the 17th at Shibdon and Stargate.
Large White - The first of the year was one at Lamesley Water Meadows on 12th followed by a few from scatterd sites from 15th.
Small White - Several at Birtley reedbeds pools on 2nd, Stargate on 4th and at Lamesley Water Meadows on 5th

Noted at Birtley reedbeds, Shibdon Pond and Westfield Pasture on 18th. Noted at a number of other sites from then to the end of the month

Sabre Wasp - 2 found in logs indoors at Lamesley on 28th.

Buff-tailed Bumblebee (Bombus terrestris) - The first of the year was noted at Shibdon on the 17th. beating the usual White-tailed as the first bumblebee of the year in the borough
