Of some interest to lepidopterists because it parasitises noctuid moths. The larva sits on a leaf and waits for a moth to come along. The photographer has submitted the record and got the follwing reply. "Yes, that looks a good ID - brown legs and antennae give it away and seperate it from the other likely candidate Nowickia ferox. You're probably right about your record being for a new area - we are quite a new recording scheme so, although it has undoubtably been recorded up that way before by someone, we probably haven't got records for it yet - so thanks for that - much appreciated "

Red-veined Darter
A rare dragonfly in the UK, Kibblesworth gets yet another species on its rapidly expanding site list. This species is most similar to the Ruddy Darter but can be distinguished by the red or yellow wing veins along the leading edge of the basal half of each wing and the unwaisted abdomen. Emperor Dragonfly
[above & below video-grabs]
Though initially thought to be Lesser this female is now considered to be a Common Emperor Dragonfly. This female was watched and videoed egglaying at Kibblesworth Brickworks Pool on the afternoon of the 2nd July but not since. However searches for this resulted in Ruddy Darter, Emperor and Black-tailed Skimmers being found here. Within 8 days 11 species of dragonfly and damselfly were seen here. [Photo: Mike Laverick]
