Very frequent in gardens, parks and waste ground including those in urban areas, sometimes in considerable numbers

Genus - Eristalis

Eristalis arbustorum  

Noted at Clara Vale in August 2008 and August 2009 at Blaydon.

One of the commonest hoverflies in parks, gardens and farmland as well as all sorts of wetland situations. Found throughout Britain

Eristalis horticola

Noted at Clara Vale in August 2008 and Shibdon on 31st May 2009

Widespread and frequent throughout Britain. It is probably present in all districts, but appears to be more abundant in northern England and Scotland.

A common and widely distributed species throughout the UK; in fact it is often the most abundant hoverfly wherever there are suitable flowers.

Noted at Shibdon in August 2008 and Far Pasture in April & Kibblesworth in August 2009

Widespread and very common. A pronounced migrant and with a very long flight period
