Long-headed Poppy

This is a common poppy of disturbed or cultivated soils. The species can be divided into two subspecies on the basis, amongst other things, of the colour of its latex (yellow or white).

Casual of waste and cultivated ground.

Flower diameter c 3-7 cm

ID: Differs from the Common Poppy, P rhoeas, familiar in much of the UK , in having long fruit capsules that narrow downwards from the top rather than short rounded ones that bulge in the middle.

Other features: Flowers do not usually have black centres like Common Poppy, but occasionally they do.
