Little Stint at Lamesley This bird became rather controversial and there was much debate as to its identity. After a series of discussions it seems that this bird is a Little Stint. Some of the features did not seem right for that species and it was thought it may be a Long-toed Stint. The long legs projected beyond the tail in flight, it has a very prominent supercillium, the call appeared to be different, it had a rather slow feeding action and an upright stance. However the consensus appears that this is just a Little Stint with longer than usual legs. Little Stints can, apparently, occasionally show greenish and even yellow legs and because this is a long-legged individual, the feet project beyond the tail and result in a more upright stance and different feeding action. All in all a very interesting bird. [Photos: Paul Davidson] | |
