Lamesley Water Meadows - A Red Fox was watched to take many Redshank and Lapwing chicks despite the efforts of the adult birds.

Dunston - 1 Osprey high above Dunston at 9.50 this morning heading west.

Barmoor - Generally, and around Barmoor in particular, there appears that the Song Thrush numbers have increased this year.

Lamesley Water Meadows - 1 Wood Sandpiper, 1 Grey Heron, 1Oyster Catcher, 2 Canada Geese, 6 Greylag Geese, 2 Shelduck, 6 Redshank, 4 Mallard plus a brood of six. 8 Goldfinches and 2 Chiffchaff by the pub and a Common Buzzard sailed over heading towards Silver Hills. No sign of the Garganey today.

Ravensworth Fell - A ringtail Harrier, high over Ravensworth was thought to be the Montagu's Harrier of 2 days ago. Also 1 Whinchat here together with 3 reeling Grasshopper Warbler.

Bradley Fell - 1 Whinchat
Ravensworth Fell - For the 3rd consecutive day, a rare bird of prey flew through the borough. A female Marsh Harrier seen flew west last seen heading towards Byermoor.
Shibdon Pond - The first brood of Canada Geese hatched today. Common Blue and Blue-tailed Damselfly on the wing.

Lamesley Water Meadows - 2 Greenshank and a Hobby flew over, the latter seen over the Ravensworth Estate
Ravensworth Fell - A female Montagu's Harrier seen hunting, then headed east, harried by corvids.
Greenside former landfill site - 3 Common Buzzard, 2 Red Kite and Kestrel

Birtley reedbed pools - 1 Reed Warbler and several Sedge Warbler
River Tyne at Dunston - An Osprey flew up river over Dunston Staithes heading west up river mobbed by gulls
Bradley Fell - 1 singing Quail again and Tree Pipit still present
Shibdon Pond - 1 Garganey. 12 Grey Lag flew over.

Lamesley Water Meadows - 1 Wood Sandpiper and 1 Greenshank
Birtley redbed pools - 1 Greenshank, 1 Reed Warbler and several Sedge Warbler
Greenside - 2 Wheatear
Kibblesworth - The first Small Heath butterfly of the year noted, plus several Small Copper and a Dingy Skipper.
Shibdon Pond - 3 Water Rail, 2 Reed Warbler, 4 Sedge Warbler & 2 Common Sandpiper. Plus 3 Shoveler,18 Mute Swan, 9 Shelduck, 4 Chiffchaff, 11 Tufted Duck, 15 Canada Geese, 1 Barnacle Goose 1, 6 Common Tern, 3 Swallow, 10+ Sand Martin, 2 Swift, , 1 Spotted Redshank (flew in and was chased off by Coots), 3 Willow Warbler, 1 Blackcap and 3 Orange-tip and a Dingy Skipper.

Shibdon Pond - Spotted Redshank (possibly a different bird) and 1 Greenshank. 7 Sedge Warbler, 1 Reed Warbler, 5 Common Tern and 3 Shoveler.
Derwent Walk CP.
- 2 pairs of Dpper with chicks on Derwent, 9 Garden Warblers singing in the CP, 1 Sedge Warbler at Goodshields lake and 1 Grasshopper Warbler on Clockburn Lane.
Watergate Lake -Pair of Mute Swans with 6 cygnets on lake and 3 Common Terns.

Derwent Walk CP.- Adult Dipper feeding 2 young birds on River Derwent above Cricket Club bridge this morning.
River Tyne at Costco - 1 Spotted Redshank on the foreshore between Timber beach and Costco at 13:45. Showing plenty of black underneath!

Shibdon Pond - 1 Greenshank, 3 Shoveler plus Coots 20+, Moorhen 10+ Mallard 30+, Mute Swan 9, Canada Geese 10+, Chiffchaff 2, Herring Gull 10+, Teal 10+, Tufted Duck 4, Shelduck 3, Sand Martin 1, Reed Bunting 1,feral Barnacle Goose 1. Butterflies here today - Peacock , Wall Brown , Green Veined White , Small White, Dingy Skipper , Orange-Tip and Small Tortoiseshell . Also a full sized Red-eared Terrapin.

 


Derwenthaugh - 1 Common Tern with a BTO ring on the staithes.
