Derwenthaugh Meadows - 6 Shelduck

Monday 15th June 2009

Birtley Reedbed Pools - JSinging Lesser Whitethroat and Reed Warbler. Also Great Spotted Woodpecker

Sunday 14th June 2009

Thornley WC - Jay, Yellow Hammer, Nuthatch, Green Woodpecker, Great spotted Woodpecker
Timber Beach - 4 Ringed Plover and a Common Whitethroat

Ryton - Great Spotted Woodpecker and Stock Dove visited one birder's garden.

Kibblesworth brickworks pool - 4 Coot chicks, 2 Kestrel and 8 Skylark

Lamesley Water Meadows - 3 pair of Lapwing with chicks and another 3 pair plus a pair of Redshank with chicks nearby. A pair of Tufted Duck on the pools.
Kibblesworth brickworks pools - 2 Oystercatcher

Birtley reedbeds - About 250 House Martin and 60 Common Swift over the settling beds and a Great Spotted woodpecker flew over.
Rwavensworth Estate - Common Buzzawd.

Far Pasture NR - Kingfisher performing well. Also 1 Little Grebe and a brood of fledged Wren.

Friday 5th June 2009

Derwenthaugh -Still no sign of any Yellow Wagtails
Harlow Green -An interesting sight of a male Blackbird catching a Common Newt from garden pond, trying to kill it by repeated pecking as the Newt tried to play dead....the observer intervened and rescued the Newt.

Thursday 4th June 2009

Derwenthaugh - No sign of any Yellow Wagtails today
Ryton Willows - The bodies of an adult Mute Swan and four cygnets were discovered dead and the police are investigating. A second adult was alive but badly injured and is now being cared for by the RSPCA.
