Rowlands Gill - Tawny Owl seen
Wednesday 30th August
Shibdon Pond - Garganey again on Shibdon 3-4 Blackcap and a few Willow warbler, Chiffchaff, Common Whitethroat, Sedge and Reed Warbler were seen.

Kestrel at Axwell Park [Ray Wilby]
Monday 28th August
Timber beach/River Tyne at Costco - A flock of 12 Black-tailed Godwits seen flying west up the Tyne at both these spots. A juvenile Peregrine seen at the same spot later at mid-day.
Shibdon Pond - Common Sandpiper, Ringed Plover, 5 Shoveler and a Pochard. Sparrow-hawk feeding regularly on a group of Goldfinches in the reserve.
Bradley Hall Pond - 2 Green Sandpiper and a Greenshank still on the pond.
Derwent Walk - 3 Green Woodpecker.
Sunday 27th August
Shibdon Pond -No sign of the Garganey but the 2 Ringed Plover, 1 Common Sandpiper and 5 Shoveler on the pond. . A Common Buzzard flew over heading west flushing many of the birds.

Stargate - Another Red Kite south of the main road.
Saturday 26th August
Shibdon Pond -No sign of the Garganey but the Ringed Plover, Common Sandpiper and 5 Shoveler on the pond. .
Bradley Hall Pond - Greenshank and 1 Green Sandpiper still on the pond, viewable from the path.
River Tyne at Costco - 17 Curlew and 200 Lapwing.

Friday 25th August
Shibdon Pond - No sign of any Garganey or Gadwall but a Ringed Plover and 7 Shoveler on the pond. 3 Willow Tit in the scrub. About 20 Swallows and what will probably be Gateshead's last Swift of the year, drinking from the pond this afternoon.
Timber Beach - Kingfisher this morning perched Gateshead side on the river and flying over to Newcastle side
Bradley Hall Pond - Greenshank and Green Sandpiper on the pond, viewable from the path.
Burdon Moor - 2 Common Buzzard and 4 Snipe.

Rowlands Gill - Seven Red Kites soaring together over the village today was the largest gathering here for months.
Wednesday 23rd August
Shibdon Pond - Pied Flycatcher seen.

Shibdon Pond - Grey Lag Goose with a orange-red neck BVJ is back. An update on the satellite information has just been loaded onto News and Gossip.
Monday 21st August
Shibdon Pond - Kingfisher seen again. Also 3 Common Sandpiper, 84 Teal
Common Buzzard at Rowlands Gill [Ray Wilby]
Rowlands Gill - Common Buzzard circling high about 1pm today, with a very ragged looking Red Kite (several primary and tail feathers missing).

Shibdon Pond - Another Holly Blue seen (at least the 12th this year). Also 2 Migrant Hawker, Southern Hawker, Common & Ruddy Darter Emerald and Blue-tailed Damselfly, 1 Common Sandpiper and 11 Little Grebe.
Crawcrook Quarry - 1 Green Sandpiper.

Friday 18th August
Clara Vale - A Whimbrel was seen and heard flying west up the Tyne.
Shibdon Pond - 4 Reed Warbler.
Far Pasture - One green-tagged Red Kite, and a Red Fox was prowling the pond. A Kingfisher, perched in the reeds pond side for absolutely ages in the rain, then gave a grand display of fishing from the post in the right hand pond. 2 p. 200+ House Martins feeding overhead.
Swalwell - 2 Kingfishers were watched fishing last Sunday, on the river by B & Q either side of the footbridge

Shibdon Pond - The "radio controlled" Grey Lag Goose still there still present. A charm of 20 Goldfinches on the reserve.
Wednesday 16th August

This Grey Lag with a radio transmitter [George Simpson] The goose is part of a study undertaken by the Central Science Laboratory, York looking at the risk to wildlife (in this case Greylag Geese) from agricultural pesticides. It was present at Druridge/Chevington in mid-late May this year.
Shibdon Pond - Grey Lag Goose with a orange-red neck band and the letters BVJ and an attached radio transmitter. We will try and find out where it has come from.
Tuesday 15th August
Watergate Lake - The male Pochard still on the lake in amongst the Tufted Ducks, several Grey Herons, a hand full of Sand Martins and Swifts, 2 Common terns, 1 Grey Wagtail in the overflow stream area and A Kingfisher very active and showing well at the top end of the stream.
Sunday 13th August
Shibdon Pond - 2 Gadwall and 3 Shoveler on the pond but no sign of the Garganey.

Tuesday 8th August
Watergate Park - One male Pochard in amongst the Little Grebe and Tufted Ducks this morning, also a handful of Swifts still present and several Grey Wagtails.
Monday 7th August
Shibdon Pond - Pochard still on the pond.
Quarry above Eels wood - Juvenile Redstart present and a Green Woodpecker.
Clara Vale - 10 Swifts still present.
Far Pasture -. A Sparrowhawk circling around but only 1 Red Kite seen over Gibside.
Derwent Walk - Half hour at the viaduct early afternoon, neither sight nor sound of any Red Kites, young or old. Kestrel perched on a pylon nearby, a juvenile Blackcap and 3 Willow Warblers.
Sunday 6th August
Shibdon Pond - .Grey Wagtail seen.
Clara Vale - Still 30 Swifts
Stargate - 2 Grey Wagtail and 2 Green Woodpecker.
Westfield Pasture - many warblers including several Garden Warblers and Common Whitethroats.
Crawcrook Quarry -1 Common Snipe
Blaydon Quarry - Willow Tit.
Far Pasture - Pair of Common Whitethroats still present.
Bradley Fell - Willow Tits feeding in the gorse at the old workings today. Also a pair of Sparrowhawks have successfully fledged young.
Saturday 5th August
Shibdon Pond - 3 broods of Tufted Duck and 1 brood of Teal on pond. 1 female Pochard also on pond.
Derwenthaugh -1 Common Sandpiper and 2 Shelduck.
Derwent Walk - Kingfisher, Grey Wagtail and Dipper by viaduct. Excellent views of the juvenile Red Kite again flying off towards Gibside.
Friday 4th August
Gibside - Red Kite carrying half-dead Jackdaw Also great views of a juvenile Cuckoo and 1 - 3 Red Kites showed well all over the grounds.
Metrocentre - 6 Long-tailed Tits in the carpark.
Thursday 3rd August
Blaydon - Swifts spotted over Cowen Road, this pm.
Wednesday 2nd August
Most of the Swifts appear to have gone.
Bradley Fell - Peregrine hunting over east Bradley Fell 6pm this afternoon

Shibdon Pond -Big influx of birds this morning 28 Mistle Thrush feeding on football field 40 Canada’s, in the reserve 10 Bullfinch’s and about 20 Goldfinches with of loads juveniles amongst them
